melbourne horror con

Just found out about a convention in March in Melbourne featuring a swag (well, four) actors, who’ve appeared in horror movies and TV shows, and for some inexplicable reason, Suicide Girls. I guess for a certain demographic horror and T&A go together. Pity, that. Anyhoo, the Hub horror con reads like one of those Star Trek-style cons where the guests parade through a Q&A panel or two and sign autographs for a fee, and certainly the talent is attractive (Suicide Girls not included, attractive yes, talent… debatable): Robert Englund, Brad Dourif, Jeffrey Combs and Tony Dodd, and a promise of more to come.

Also of interest is the Supernatural con they’re planning for April, with the stars of the TV show Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Incredibly, tickets costing $1400 and $800 have sold out. Are these boys hot or what?

There is also some do related to Twilight, but I think both the book and movie are naff, so I didn’t check that out 🙂

  1. Hi there

I can’t seem to get anymore info from the Horror Con organisers than what’s on the website (a month out and still no updates). Have emailed them but haven’t received a response…Have you been to any of their events before? Just don’t want to get ripped off. Hopefully they’ll put a programme up soon – I’m coming from another state and need to plan my trip.

You’re right, the talent is great — and yes, I’m also bamboozled why Suicide Girls has been included? It’s quite repulsive actually. Who knows, sounds like some bizarre marketing ploy to me.

  2. Hey there,
I’m sorry to say I know only what’s on the website. This seems to be the year of miscommunication or simply no communication! I don’t think I’ve been to anything they’ve run before.
If you’re looking for an alternative, I’d suggest Continuum in Melbourne in August to hear US author Chelsea Quinn Yarbro or the rather action-packed GenConOz in Brisbane in September or perhaps one of the Supanovas (and I’ve just noticed Firefly‘s Morena Baccarin is a guest — woot!).
